On the Water
You’ll find rivers and streams made for fly fishing and lakes and reservoirs suited to spin casting. Native redband trout draw anglers to the Donner und Blitzen and Silvies Rivers, while Chickahominy and Mann Lake offer trout, bass, and crappie for those who prefer casting from shore or boat.
Top Spots
This is a classic fly-fishing stream flowing through the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Known for its wild redband trout and scenic canyon stretches, though much of it has seasonal closures—check current regulations before planning a trip.
These smaller waters boast redband trout and quiet solitude. Great for anglers who like less-pressured streams.
A favorite for shore and boat anglers alike, this river is stocked with trout and home to warmwater species. It’s a versatile spot close to Highway 20.
Remote and windswept, Mann Lake offers cutthroat trout in a high-desert setting. It is best fished from spring through early summer when water levels are higher.
Resting in a glacial cirque high on Steens Mountain, Wild Horse Lake offers anglers brook trout amid breathtaking alpine scenery. It is best visited in late summer when snow has melted and access roads are open.
